Sofus Preisel

Composer - Performer - Pianist

/  /  “In my work, I try to reconcile the sensuous ambiguity of art with the unwavering
/  /  "unambiguity of activism. My work consists of sound that finds its aesthetic in creating
/  /  "change. In this endeavour, I often work conceptually but within the frame of classical music.

Bio

Sofus has recently re-launched his musical career as a composer and has begun his education at The Royal Academy of Music, Århus. He is Danish and based in Copenhagen. On the few years he has pursued this endeavour he has already accomplished collaborations with acclaimed ensembles, musicians and performers; Been hosted on acclaimed festivals; had commissions for large scale productions; and stoked controversy.

Sofus usually work with highly contested political topics. In doing so, Sofus is steadfast on his artistic visions, but works with a deep sense of respect and sensibility. He doesn’t shy away from a cancellation, if a satisfactory compromise can’t be found, but the outset for a collaboration is always respect and humility. When working in the field of the controversial, listening, learning and compromising is imperative to generate a safe work environment and a high artistic output.

Apart from his career as a composer, Sofus is also a critic at the acclaimed music magazine Seismograf and has hosted interviews and Q&As with commended composers. He also volunteers as a chair member and as an organiser for the concert association Aarhus Unge Tonekunstnere.

He has also done work for the publishing company Edition·S where he prepared resurfaced scores by Else Marie Pade for publication. Pade was an, until recently, overlooked Danish composer pioneering musique concrète and electronic music.
